We Invented Someone

Hah, ok, now that we have that dispensed with! I participated in the massive indie comic/music anthology, Comic Book Tattoo, in 2008. It was the first time I worked with Dracula Son of the Dragon collaborator, Mark Sable. Shortly after the guys at Image contacted be about working on another book like it, called This Is A Souvenir: The Songs Of Spearmint & Shirley Lee.

I had loved the format and was eager to try my hand at scripting something like that myself. So in 2009 I came up with “We Invented Someone”. A short story inspired by the lyrics and composition of I invented someone by SPEARMINT, it’s my own spin/words, but closely rifts off their song.

I plan on re-printing it someday in a square edition of RevolveЯ, but I thought I’d post it here for now, what with it being February! It’s structured as four romances, told each with a page, and then a final panel summation on the last fifth page. Color was super important to me for this one. I tried to use it to link the vinyets to the corresponding final panels, and set the mood for each vinyet. Was pretty happy with the results and it made me want to do more erotic themes as well as short stories too. In time.
